About Green River

Overview/Population
Green River is a city that is located in the northeastern region in Utah. It is one of 13 cities that can be found in Emery County. This city is located directly on the banks of the Green River. It has a population of just 900, which makes it one of the smallest cities in the United States. Green River is composed of 98.7 percent land and 1.03 percent water. The total area of this city is just 12.6 square miles.

History
The city of Green River first started out as a river crossing for mail carriers. In 1876, a ferry was built on the east side of the river, and it became a rest stop for both travelers and people who were transporting goods. Green City was officially incorporated as a city in Emery County in 1906. It was named after the Green River.

Climate
Green River has a diverse climate. The temperature in the city is constantly changing, and there are four distinct seasons. Snow is a very common occurrence in Green River. The city also has 150 clear, sunny days out the year. The mean temperature in the winter is 39 degrees Fahrenheit, and the mean temperature in the summer is 86 degrees Fahrenheit. Green River is also prone to severe weather.
