About Green River

Green River is located in Emery and Grand Counties, Utah. Green River is situated along I-70 in east central Utah, 45 miles northwest of Arches National Park and 60 miles northwest of Canyonlands. The name of the city comes from the Green River. Green River has a perfect geographical position, being located near wonderful scenery, world-class rafting, dinosaur fossils, amazing fishing places and Native American rock art panels. Today Green River is a crossing point for travelers headed from Denver to Las Vegas or Salt Lake City towards Moab. The main economic power in Green River is tourism.

Green River is a good place to discover Wild West folklore, legend and history. At John Wesley Powell Museum can be admired many artifacts and relics from the expeditions of this famous explorer. Nearby, along the Outlaw Trail is Robber's Roost, a popular outlaw hideout of the Wild Bunch, Butch Cassidy's motley band of bank robbers.

The main attraction in this small city is the Green River. The river comes right though the town and is one of the most spectacular flat water paddles in the country. Tourists can easily find good white water rafting spots or practice kayak, canoe or river boat. The best place to begin a water expedition along this river is only from the city of Green River. The Green River is also a world-renowned fly fishing stream. Its emerald waters are home for a large population of trout, cutthroats, white bass, perch, crappie and many other species.

Green River is also surrounded by acres of deserts that provide a lot of recreational activities such as  hiking, backpacking, taking, 4x4 trails, ATV and OHV trails, horse back riding, mountain biking or golf. Some areas in the desert canyons in the Green River are still unexplored. Along the bank of Green River is the 53 acres Green River State Park that has a 42-unit campground, hot showers, rest rooms, an amphitheater and a new nine-hole golf course. Green River is famous for its watermelons. Locals say that they are the best in the world.
